Glenveagh signs Business in the Community's 'Low Carbon Pledge'

Glenveagh Properties plc has signed up to the Business in the Community Ireland Low Carbon Pledge committing to set science-based targets (SBTs).

The goal of the Low Carbon Pledge is to achieve carbon neutrality and a net zero world by 2050. By signing the pledge, Glenveagh has committed to:

  • Recording their entire Carbon Footprint, both direct (Scope 1 & 2) and indirect (Scope 3) carbon emissions.
  • Reducing carbon emissions that they are directly responsible for (Scope 1 & 2), as well as play their part in reducing emissions across their supply chain (Scope 3).
  • Report publicly their individual progress, as well as collectively through the annual BITCI Low Carbon Report.
  • Regularly reviewing their carbon reduction targets (SBTs) to align to the latest Climate Science.

Head of Sustainability at Glenveagh, Lorraine Fitzgerald, commented:

“Having already focused on making our houses highly energy efficient, we are now working to reduce the carbon associated with the building materials (embodied carbon) and the fuel used to build our houses. We will be actively working with our suppliers and sub-contractors in this regard throughout 2023. We have also submitted our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We look forward to publishing our Net Zero strategy early in 2023, which will set out our commitments on our path to achieving net zero emissions.”

The Low Carbon Pledge is the first dedicated pledge generated by Irish business to set industry standards on sustainability and reduce carbon emissions. The Pledge demonstrates meaningful business commitment to reducing carbon emissions and acts as a catalyst for wider initiatives and actions. Endorsed by the Irish Government, the Low Carbon Pledge is included in the Government's Climate Action Plan 2021.
